Kino dny 2026! This weekend, more than 190 Czech cinemas join forces for the first time, with tickets everywhere for a hundred crowns

Půlnoc v Hollywoodu

On the weekend of 19 and 20 September, Czech cinemas are embarking on something that has never been done here before. Under the banner Kino dny, more than 190 cinemas in over 140 towns and cities will join together, a total of roughly 467 screens and more than 87 thousand seats, and a uniform ticket price of one hundred crowns will apply everywhere. The event is organised by the Asociace provozovatelů kin in cooperation with the Unie filmových distributorů.

The first time on this scale
The first permanent cinema in what is now the Czech Republic opened in 1907. In more than a hundred years, cinemas have become a natural part of cultural and social life, but this is the very first time they have coordinated nationwide. Independent single-screen cinemas and multiplexes alike are taking part. The organisers argue that the big screen, the sound and the shared experience in a darkened auditorium make a film something different from watching at home on the sofa.

“A visit to the cinema is not just about watching a film,” says Dan Krátký of the Asociace provozovatelů kin.

What will be screened
The programme relies on a mix of premieres, previews, summer hits and returns. Among the new releases are the horror Resident Evil, shot in the Czech Republic, the animated family comedy Coyote vs. Acme and the sharp comedy The Christophers. Foreign cinema is represented by the Korean drama Hope, the French thriller Gourou, the French drama L'Abandon, the acclaimed Rose and the dramedy Un poeta. The thriller Call adds suspense.

Of the big summer titles, The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day made it into the programme. The documentary strand is held up by the award-winning Kdyby se holubi proměnili ve zlato and the portrait Bára Basiková.

Particularly interesting is the section of titles that are no longer in regular distribution. Among them is Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, whose premiere was twenty-five years ago this year. The line-up also caters for family audiences.

How to get tickets
Tickets are sold directly by the individual cinemas, either online on their websites or at the box office. The organisers recommend buying in advance, as auditorium capacity is limited. The flat price of CZK 100 applies to regular 2D screenings within the Kino dny programme; prices may differ for premium formats. Questions about a specific programme should be addressed directly to your cinema.
