historical | drama 🎭
The historical drama Kokurôjô by director Kiyoshi Kurosawa is based on the award-winning novel by Honobu Yonezawa and is set in Japan in 1578, in the uncertain period of the warring states. At the centre of the story stands the tense relationship of two men. The lord of the castle, the samurai Murashige Araki, and his prisoner, the brilliant and dangerous strategist Kanbei Kuroda, an envoy of the enemy clan, whom Araki imprisons instead of executing. While the armies of Nobunaga Oda close in around the walls, a series of unexplained deaths sweeps through the castle and fear, distrust and suspicion grow among the defenders. The gradual unravelling of the mystery becomes not only a detective investigation, but also a contest of will, loyalty and differing ideas about honour, power and freedom. (distribution CinemArt)

4K BD: Ecce homo Homolka | ČSSR | 1969 ⭐ CINECICCIA RECOMMENDS 🎬
comedy 😆
A bitter comedy about an ordinary Sunday in the family of a Prague taxi driver. The married couple Ludva and Heduš Homolka live with their twin boys and Ludva's parents in a Prague flat. On Sunday they all set out together on a trip to the countryside to enjoy some healthy air. The self-assured grandfather, the caring, yet uncompromising grandmother, the somewhat downtrodden Ludva with the dissatisfied Heduš and the curious twins are not really able to enjoy themselves. The whole day is a heap of petty disputes and quarrels that seem to be an inseparable part of their lives. The ironic comedy has a strong satirical and critical undertone. We can laugh at the Homolka family, but at the same time that laughter gives us a slight chill... (distribution Magic Box)
