Silo has unveiled the first teaser for season 4. The finale of the sci-fi saga with Rebecca Ferguson arrives on Apple TV on 9 July 2027
Just hours after the season three finale aired, Apple TV announced the premiere date of the fourth and final season of Silo and released the first short teaser for it. The closing chapter of the dystopian saga based on Hugh Howey's book trilogy launches on 9 July 2027 and fans are thus in for the shortest wait in the show's history.
Season three opened up the past
Season three launched on 3 July and, after ten episodes, closed with an episode titled Troy. For the first time it split the narrative into two timelines. In the present, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) returns from a forced “cleaning” with memory loss, while Silo 18 recovers from an uprising and faces a new threat. The second strand takes place centuries earlier in Washington, where the young, ambitious congressman Daniel Keene (Ashley Zukerman, Succession) and journalist Helen Drew (Jessica Henwick, Game of Thrones) stumble upon a conspiracy that leads to the construction of the silos. The past was also filled out by Jessica Brown Findlay as Daniel's sister Charlotte and Laura Innes as the powerful Senator Thurman.
From Donald to Daniel
The basis for season three was Howey's novel Shift, in which the main character is called Donald. Series creator Graham Yost renamed the character and substantially rebuilt the whole pre-apocalypse story. He wanted to strengthen the romantic thread and lean more on political tension. “We didn't want someone in that role to be called Donald,” Graham Yost explained to TheWrap.
“We wanted to make it more of a political conspiracy thriller,” Yost added to TVLine.
The season three finale connected both timelines, and the season four teaser picks up from there. Plenty of questions remain... How much time has actually passed, who set off the bomb, what the whole project is for, and whether the rest of the world is a wasteland too...
An ending according to plan
Apple renewed the series for two seasons at once back in December 2024 and announced right then that the fourth would be the last. Seasons three and four were shot back to back, and filming of the finale wrapped this March. Thanks to that, Apple was able to announce the premiere date practically the moment the season three credits rolled.
The books
The series is based on the trilogy by American author Hugh Howey, Wool, Shift and Dust, published in Czech translation by Knižní klub between 2014 and 2016. The first volume was reissued last year by Laser. The first two seasons of the series adapted the novel Wool, the third drew on Shift, and the finale will thus presumably take on the closing Dust.
The creators
The series was created by Graham Yost, screenwriter of the action classic Speed. Rebecca Ferguson is, alongside the lead role, also an executive producer, as are the author of the books Hugh Howey and Morten Tyldum, director of The Imitation Game, who also directs the series. Previous seasons have also featured Tim Robbins, Common, Steve Zahn, Harriet Walter, Iain Glen and Rick Gomez.
